Controller

Valley College has doubled in size in the first year under new ownership and we are preparing for more growth.   We operate 3 campuses plus an online division.  Our corporate headquarters is located in a suburb about 1.5 hours from Washington, DC, 15 minutes south of Hagerstown, MD and 30 minutes north of Winchester, VA, in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. We seek a seasoned financial manager/controller with an entrepreneurial spirit to establish the financial foundation for our growth.  This means it’s a small college with big plans and you will have many responsibilities commensurate with a growth organization – some standard operations, like overseeing payables, cash flow management and bank reconciliations - and some more complex and sophisticated, like establishing financial processes, financial forecasting and financial reporting.  As important, you must have the commitment and drive it takes to thrive in a growth environment.  The position reports to the President/Owner of the college.   To qualify for this position, you MUST have 5 - 10 years financial “business" management experience, including preparation of monthly financial statements, GAAP and accrual accounting procedures and financial forecasting.     RequirementsResponsibilities:
  • Responsible for all financial operations of the college
  • Design/implement financial processes
    • Campus and corporate level
    • Optimize utilization of the campus administrative system (CampusVue)
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
  • Conduct financial variance analysis (performance to plan)
  • Develop short range and long range budgets/forecasts for the college
  • Manage annual financial audits as well as prepare periodic regulatory agency reports
  • Coordinate financial transactions with Financial Aid for all campuses (A/R management)
  • Oversee accounts payable
 Skills/Experience:
  • Financial “business management" experience
  • GAAP/accrual accounting experience
  • Monthly financial statement preparation
  • Financial reporting, analysis and management experience
  • Expertise in Excel reporting
  • Peachtree accounting system knowledge desired
  • Education industry experience highly desired
  • CampusVue campus administrative system experience  highly desired
 Personal Attributes:
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
