Recently, I read that the Naperville Township government was deciding on whether to have a prevailing wage on contract jobs that were union.I also read that some of the township trustees were against any jobs that require a prevailing wage.
Under the laws of the federal government, a prevailing wage must be in place in government contracts to insure that just compensation is given, as in other contract jobs in that state.
The trustees cannot undermine this law without themselves breaking it.
Speaking of wages, did you know you"re paying twice for services that both the township and the county do? Why couldn"t the duties of "township highway commissioner", for example, be given to DuPage County, to handle the roads? Why would we need a trustee board when your high taxes go to pay lofty county board members" salaries, to oversee the duties of snow plowing or leaf removal in the DuPage area?
The GOP likes speaking of government spending, but will do little about the issue in local government.
This, in my opinion, is truly "taxation without any representation"!
Having a living wage is necessary for working families who put in forty plus hours a week to survive.
Paying township government anything that the city or county could do is a crime in itself.
This is a extra layer of "pork" that taxpayers don"t need and another example of township government bleeding taxpayers dry!
