This position is located in the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Office, Morgantown, West Virginia. The Office Assistant serves as the receptionist and provides administrative support for the West Virginia State Office.

- Must be able to type a minimum of 40 wpm
- If selected, must serve one-year probationary period
Major duties:
· Answer multi-line telephones, route calls, take messages, schedule appointments, and respond to or refer inquiries
· Greet staff, visitors and/or customers and provide required assistance, or refer to proper source for assistance
· Process mail, including open, sort, stamp, log in and distribute
· Retrieve and input data utilizing a computer
· Greet visitors, give routine and non-routine information; answer questions.
· Prepare and type a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, requisitions, etc., using computer work station.
· Organize and maintain electronic and paper files, records, manuals, and handbooks.
· Assist in timekeeping and processing travel pay requests
· Other duties as assigned

Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience in a professional office setting providing administrative support to office staff, including answering phone calls, receiving visitors, filing, preparing documents and sorting and distributing mail.
OR:
4 years of education above high school.
OR:
A combination of education and experience.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:CATEGORY RATING: Applications will be evaluated in accordance with Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Delegated Examining Procedures using category rating. Qualified candidates will be placed into one of the three categories as described below:
Best Qualified Category: Meets the minimum qualification requirements and possesses all of the job related competencies as identified as important for successful job performance.
Well-qualified Category: Meets the minimum qualification requirements and possesses a majority (i.e., more than half) of the job-related competencies needed for successful job performance.
Basically-Qualified Category: Meets the minimum qualifications and basic eligibility requirements, but does not meet the definition of Well-qualified or Best-Qualified as described above.

· Skill in working with others in order to serve in the office support functions.
