Responsibilities and prospects for a Director of Materials Management include:
- Negotiates with vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment, and services
- Involved in supplier evaluation and qualification as needed to maintain an adequate supply chain
- Manages day-to-day operations of the purchasing departments at all divisions
- Manages buyers at all divisions
- Coordinates and standardizes all purchasing at all divisions
- Ensure timely receipt of materials to support the production
- Works with each division to properly assess and maintain optimum inventory levels
- Manage supplier relationships, monitor vendor performance including cost, quality, and on time delivery
- Competitively benchmark and do value analysis to achieve continuous cost reductions
- Demonstrate success in material cost management and reduction.
- Establish goals for each division and corresponding plan of execution
- Execute timely purchase orders to support MRP requirements and procure non-inventory requirements
- Establish healthy internal and external business partnerships focusing on strong communication and development of loyalty and trust
- Negotiates supplier contracts as necessary
- Negotiates with vendors for good and services, negotiating the best possible price and service guarantee
- Establishes Purchasing Policies and ensures compliance
- Develops new supply sources where vendors are inadequate
- Examines bids and makes awards
- Establishes account/credit and terms
- Negotiates blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitors cost during the time period.
- Checks requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers
- Works closely with Receiving Department to ensure proper supplies arrived
- Traces delinquent arrivals from Purchase Orders
- Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws
- Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Education and experience for a Director of Materials Management include:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
- Professional certifications preferred: CPIM, CPM, APP
- Three to five years of purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing field
- Ability to communicate effectively, foster team development, good organizational skills, and be detailed oriented
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Confident in self and job knowledge
- Initiates resolution to problems
- Demonstrates computer literacy that includes spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing ability
- Excellent customer service skill in support of internal and external customers
- Excel in team oriented culture, ability to succeed in a dynamic environment
- Negotiating skills
- Proficient in SAP
- Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Organizational skills for efficient office control are mandatory
- Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts
- Solid decision making skills
