Student Trainee (Statistics) at Huntington

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a Pathways Internship Program position for a Student Trainee (Statistics) within the Navigation Planning Center, Huntington District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Army Internship Program: The Internship Program is for current students and individuals accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational program from high school to graduate level, with paid opportunities to work for the Army and explore Federal careers while still in school. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service.  Additional information about the Internship Program can be found at www.usajobs.gov/studentsandgrads/.

The initial appointment for this position is not to exceed one year and may be extended an additional year or converted to an internship appointment without an expiration date.

Who May Apply:

  • Student Program Eligibles -To be eligible for the Pathways Intern Program, you must have been accepted for enrollment or be enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis.

Note:  You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship.  If you cannot, you are ineligible for this program.  Please review the "Qualifications" section of this vacancy announcement to ensure you qualify for this internship.

  • Required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
  • Subject to a background/suitability investigation.

As a Student Trainee (Statistics) in the Navigation Center. You will:

  • Receive formal/informal and on-the-job training in the application of economic/statistics principles, theories, concepts,  practices, and techniques for the preparation of reports and studies pertaining to flood control, navigation, shore protection, water conservation, and civil works projects;
  • Input data into an automated computer system;
  • Prepare drawings, graphs, and charts;
  • Prepare and write reports; AND
  • Collect, analyze, assess, and interpret data.

Education Requirements:

To qualify at the GS-3 grade level: 

Applicant must have completed 1 academic year of post high school study in a related field such as; statistics or mathematics

To qualify at the GS-4 grade level: 

Applicant must have completed 2 academic years of post high school study or an associates degree in a related field such as; statistics or mathematics.

An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or  -the equivalent in an accredited college or university.

 


Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency in order to be considered for this position. Please include this information in your resume.

  • Must maintain at least a half-time course load as defined by the educational institution.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your application package (resume, transcripts, and responses to the questionnaire ) will be reviewed to verify that you meet the basic eligibility and qualification requirements.  Your responses to the questionnaire will be used to evaluate your relevant personal, educational, and work experiences.  Only the most recently submitted resume will be considered.

Basis for Rating:  Qualified candidates will be assigned to one of three quality categories:  Best Qualified, Highly Qualified and Qualified.  Veterans preference eligibles are listed ahead of non-preference eligibles within each quality category.
